Earth Day

Be part of the global Earth Day Network

It definitely is possible, and there are many things you can do. At Earth Day's heart is raising environmental awareness. One way to do that is to talk.

If you have a table, try to get permission from your local authorities to set it up in the center of town on Earth Day. Get some big, cheap pieces of paper, and a cheap marker, and write something on it like "Earth Day" and "Learn what you can do help the environment (and those who depend on it!)." Then ask your friends to spend a couple of hours at the table with you. As people walk by, invite them over to learn about the environment.

It's good to have something fun for them to do. Conduct a survey, for example. Make the questions interesting and educational. You could even invite people to find out what their "Ecological Footprint" is by inviting them to take EDN's quiz: http://www.earthday.net/Footprint/index.asp.

If you have any other ideas, please post them here so the EDN network can learn from your ideas, and maybe even give you some feedback.

Thanks!

Include a display about recycling in your town. Show items that can and cannot be recycled and why. Perhaps lable them or attach them to boards. Hand out brochures or pages (you should be able to get this from the town hall).

Have an exhibit it the library about recycling. Sometimes the library has cases and allows you to put exhibits in them if you schedule ahead of time.

Involve the kids! Have an Earthday art or writing contest-get local businesses to allow the children's posters to be hung up in their windows. Our town lets them paint right on the window.

There are so many simple things one can do on a large or small scale. I list many on my site. They include an Earthday Swap, Earthday Fast, and so on. Check out the GREATEST EARTHDAY PAGES EVER on Planetpals.
