Tips from 1001 ways you can save the planet.

Be a beekeeper
The humble bee is a real friend to humankind, not only because it generates honey and wax but also because it pollinates wild flowers, garden plants and crops that would otherwise become extinct.
Indeed, it's been estimated that without these bussy insects the planet would last for only 60 years (did you know that?).
By cultivating a small "hobby hive" we can support bees in their vital work - it requires only about half an hour's work per week to produce jars and jars of delicious, home-grown honey.

Wow......we just don't think about how important insects are in the preservation of the planet. Thanks Mandra

This is a very good post and very relevant to modern days especially here in Australia.
As Global Warming brings weather pattern changes, this not only effects us a humans but also every other form of life on earth.
Here in Australia the price of buying honey has about doubled in the last few years, due to declining numbers of bees and unsuitable climatic conditions, keeping keeping the bees in their hives.
A hobby Hive sounds like a very good idea as I have noticed this past growing season, less bees than normal which of course effects badly needed pollination of vegetable plants.
If this continues to happen, and we cannot cross pollinate manually ourselves then, we have major problems ahead of us.

Hi!
I just read some disturbing news about bees in US as well.
Here:
Buy local honey at your farmer's market or www.honeylocator.com. All around the country large and small beekeeping operations are registering staggering losses of honeybees, with some farmers reporting population drops of 99 percent. While there is no obvious single cause, pesticides, parasitic mites and loss of woodland habitat are all considered culprits. Vital to agriculture, honeybees are responsible for pollinating $14 billion dollars worth of U.S. crops and, according to the American Beekeeping Federation, a third of the food Americans eat.

Rather you than me. The last time I was stung by a bee I felt so unwell I had to stay in bed for a day.
