I am from Rajasthan, India. Rajasthan is the largest state of India wirth most of its part desert. Besides, diagonally the state of Rajasthan is divided by Aravallis (which is considered to be world's oldest hills). Thar desert is on the wetsern side of Aravallis.

I belong to the southern part of Rajasthan which has considerable number of wetlands as compared to other parts of Rajasthan State. My concern is the decline in the forest area and water bodies.

In total Rajasthan has 9% of forest area, out of which more that 40% is present in the southern parts but slowly these forest areas are declining. Basically we have Dry Deciduous Tropical Forests in our area.

We are putting our efforts to raise awareness among the mass. We had also formed youth groups in our area who regularly organize the program on mass awareness especially the international days related to nature & environment.

On Earth Day, our group has taken meeting to stop all the activities in our families which affect environment such as less use of paper, conservation of water, less use of biodegradable substances (plastic bags) etc. Now, we are planned to take this as a mass movement.

Comment by Milou on April 18, 2008 at 12:07pm: Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, has been smothered in a thick blanket of smoke caused by brush fires.

The smoke has caused health problems with residents complaining of asthma and skin and eye irritations.
Traffic has been stopped and aircraft have been told to divert to other airports.
