The video "The Story of Stuff" is a very educative video that has opened my eyes about how our selfishness as a nation is destroying our planet earth. According to the Stuff Video, our primary identity is becoming consumers but the total material percent of things consumed turn 99% to trash. I have made a conscious decision from now on to stop buying more stuff, turn off my lights when not in use and continue to raise the awareness of saving this beautiful planet earth. I was surprised to learn that the goods that we buy are made up of toxic, so even the clothes that we wear give us diseases. How can we reverse this trend of consuming stuffs into saving the environment? We must become caretakers of our environment. As humans, our life depends on this planet earth and it is our duty to take care of it. According to Norman Cousins, "Disheveled is in fashion, neatness is obsolete." The sloppiness virus has spread to all sectors of society. People go to all sorts of trouble and expense to look uncombed, unshaven, unpressed (Cousin 1). Our teenagers wear their pants on the buttocks instead of waist. Even older men don't cut or shave their hair anymore but you will meet older men on the street with bushy and uncombed hair. Neatness is declining from our schools, workplaces and homes because people don't care about their health anymore. Based on Norman Cousin's article, our perspective on life affects how we dress, what we eat and how we treat others. Now it is time for change not a change for worse but rather a change for better. Changing is the only constant thing in the Universe. We all need to put a stop to this vicious cycle of destroying our planet earth. It is time to change our language, our lifestyle, and our fashion in order to be able to bring back cleanliness into our environment again.

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a compassionate and a caring person who is studying nursing at the University of the District of Columbia. As a nurse I know that healthy people make a healthy Nation. Air pollution, medical waste, and global warming all come together to affect our health if we don't do something about it. If we throw trash everywhere sooner or later our environment will be filled with trash, and in turn affect the air we breath. The earth is our place to live so we must take care of it. My concern about the decline of neatness in the environment prompted me to join the earth day movement. Conservation of energy and saving our beautiful planet earth is the responsibility of us all. There are some simple things we all can do to change our environment. For example, turning off our lights when not in use, turn water faucets off completely to prevent dripping and wasting of water and dispose trash in its appropriate containers when we are in the community. If we all do these little things daily it will bring a great change into our environment.

"Disheveled is in fashion, neatness is obsolete." The sloppiness virus has spread to all sectors of society(Cousin 1). Oh!! What a decline of neatness in our society. Now it is time for change not a change for bad but a change for better. Changing is the only constant thing in the Universe. The 21st Centuary generation needs to learn about how to preserve this planet earth of ours. Who is going to teach this computer geek's about responsibility. It is the duty of the older generation to teach the younger generation. We all need to remember that there is only one earth so we must take care of it.

Why I am Passionate About Saving the Earth.

My profile describes me and why I am interested in saving the earth. My major in nursing gears me towards having a neat and clean environment. Air pollution and solid waste is skyrocketing from industries and individuals. My observation about how people are wasteful is staggering. For example, in the hospitals and nursing homes unused medications are flushed down the toilet and the water goes down to the mainstream water supply system. From there it is filtered and then sent back to the people's… Continue
