Change for Her/Mother Earth!

There is one and only one Mother Earth.
She is the Queen of humans;
She provides us the beauty of nature, the greenish of trees, the singing of birds.
She gives us her arms to protect us from any danger.
But what do we do in response?
We create wars, our hearts and minds are full of hate, ego and envy,
And that don't let us see the reality.
Money and technology have trapped us,
And we forget about the nature of our Mother Earth.
The beauty of nature, the paradise is becoming a field of battles
With bombs that contaminate the air we breathe.
Let’s forget about our artificial life
And start thinking about the natural life that our Mother Earth offers us!
It is time to change our selfish behavior.
It is time to stop the decline of neatness,
And instead of contaminating our earth with bad influences and toxins;
We should contaminate others with a positive attitude,
And spread the disease of “naturities,” and “neatness” in the environment.

What Does The Decline of Neatness Have To Do With Global Warming?

Definitely, the decline of neatness in peoples’ behavior, morality, respect and responsibility has to do a lot with global warming, and other environmental issues around the globe. People’s behavior and actions have become so negative and selfish towards the mother Earth. As Norman Cousin says, “the sloppiness virus has spread to all sectors of society. People go to all sorts of trouble and expense to look uncombed, unshaved, unpressed.” We worry too much about our appearance that we forget about being neat, clean, and safe. Maybe some of us are acting with a negative attitude because we are in need of “happiness, joy and perpetual harmony,” and we do not have clearly “set out [our] objectives for living” (Time for Change). It is definitely time to change that negative attitude and get an increase in neatness! The "The Story of Stuff" is a video that displays the sad reality of human actions towards our mother Earth. Before watching this video I didn’t realized that the stuff I buy and throw is made of toxins products and that it also creates toxins that pollute the air. This video really made me think of my actions and made me think I should be a better person and protect my home Earth. We are living in selfish societies that need to start changing their attitude and do something good for them and the Earth. Definitely, the U.S is an artificial country full of luxury and rich people that don't see how poor people are affected when they throw and burn garbage. So let’s think, talk, and act but first starting with our own actions and then spread the word! Most of the people I have coeme in contact with don’t even know what is going on in this world because they worry too much about making money to pay for their needs (stuffs). Thus, as a university student I have the responsibility to share to those who don’t know how their behavior could have either a negative or a positive impact in nature. If every individual would show a positive attitude, that attitude will grow and like a virus will contaminate others. Instead of contaminating our air and people from bad influences, and toxics we should contaminate others with a positive attitude and spread the disease of “naturities,” and “neatness” in the environment.

Who Is Responsible for Taking Care of the Earth?
“Global warming is already causing damage in many parts of the United States. In 2002, Colorado, Arizona and Oregon endured their worst wildfire seasons ever. The same year, drought created severe dust storms in Montana, Colorado and Kansas, and floods caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage in Texas, Montana and North Dakota. Since the early 1950s, snow accumulation has declined 60 percent and winter seasons have shortened in some areas of the Cascade Range in Oregon and Washington” (Natural Resources Defense Council). What is next or who is next? Who is responsible? First of all the government is responsible for not creating the correct laws that can make the people use less energy. But, also the people have a big responsibility to take care of our other Earth if humans don’t act quickly aliens won’t come and do it for them. People should work together and fix this decline of neatness on our Earth, and create a green Earth as their home.
Responsibility may be a huge word for many people but they should be aware of how their actions may affect the environment and pollute the air. For example “The Story of Stuff” video, displays the reality of how humans are causing the Earth destruction. This video shows how stuff is extracted, produced, distributed, consumed and disposed and how this “stuff” pollutes the environment. It is amazing how people don’t realize that buying so much stuff is contributing to air pollution and causing that only “40% of the water has become undrinkable” (The Story of Stuff). This means that people buy stuff made of toxics and then thrown them causing more toxics. If people would think deeply and act with a positive attitude and make a change maybe some horrible catastrophes such as the hurricanes could have been prevented. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, “In 2003, extreme heat waves caused more than 20,000 deaths in Europe and more than 1,500 deaths in India. And in what scientists regard as an alarming sign of events to come, the area of the Arctic's perennial polar ice cap is declining at the rate of 9 percent per decade.” A lot of people have died because of global warming and facts are in the eyes of people but people seem not to care about it. It is ridiculous how society acts in a selfish attitude.
Even the University of the District of Columbia shows that decline of neatness in people’s behavior. Based on observations there is trash in almost every corner, the steps look like the forest in the spring but with colorful trash. Moreover, the streets are full of different kind of trash but what it’s interesting is that people walk by without noticing they even throw more trash and keep walking without caring. As Annie Leonard says in “The Story of Stuff” it is not “like gravity that we got to live with, people create it and we are people too so let’s create something new” to save the Earth. There are many species living in this planet; animals, plants, under sea creatures and human beings, but those who have the power to do something are the people. Of course, there are some who have more power than others, for example, “The EPA’s Green Power Partnership” booklet describes EPA as one of the most leading environmental organizations in the U.S. the main purpose of this booklet is to provide other organizations enough information and to “assist [them] in determining if a green power purchase is right for [their] organization” (EPA Green Power Partnership 1). Those who have the power to make a change should not think about it and act quickly; the power being money and resources needed to recycle or those huge organizations, having the power of buying green power and spend less energy when producing consumer products.
The United States is one of the most powerful countries but it seems one of the most affected countries by global warming. Why is it, maybe because humans are acting as wild animals? People smoke everywhere contaminating the fresh air. The few rivers this country has are dirty full of trash. Human beings know that “liquid water is key to life on Earth, without it we wouldn’t exist” so they shouldn’t contaminate it (Space School). Comparing the U.S environment to other countries such as Guatemala, they are two different surroundings, the greenish and the pure water of the rivers and the forest create a fresh air that people breathe every day. Definitely, the United States shows a huge decline of neatness not only in its culture but also in the way people take care of the environment they live in. now people do not even take care of them; their body is all tattooed. How can a person who do not care about hurting himself or herself take care of the Earth? Taking care of the Earth sounds to complex and complicated but just by putting the trash in its place a person is helping to save the mother Earth.

However, as rational humans people can think and there are many ways to contribute and save the Earth and many are doing it. For example many organizations can benefit by partnering with EPA Green Power Partnership because it “works with hundreds of leading organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, local state, and federal government agencies, manufacturers and retailers, trade associations, as well as a growing number of colleges and universities “ (EPA Green Power partnership 1). This shows that not all people are destroying the Earth, there stills hope and if people unite and act to save the Earth, then the mother Earth will be very thankful. People know that EPA is doing something to save the Earth but not because they know that, they will cross their arms and just sit there watching how the Earth destroys. Moreover, people’s behavior has a big influence on the Earth’s environment. If people will choose to walk, take the bus or ride a bike instead of driving that will be a change and a positive action for our mother Earth. According to the Space School video, “scientists theorized that we are responsible for climate change, industry and automobiles release carbon dioxide, a major green house gas…trapping the sun’s energy, warming the Earth.” Thus, people should take that responsibility and “adopt a greener life style” (Space School).
As a result, society pressure, and an artificial world full of luxury stuff should not be an obstacle to act as humans and protect the environment in which people live in. Everybody should participate, children, parents, teachers, grandparents etc. why, because it is everybody’s responsibility to do so. Even though organizations like “Whole Foods Market” Johnson & Johnson” “U.S Air Force” and “Penn University of Pennsylvania” need to participate more because they have more power and buy “green power” in order to help reduce “the risk of climate change” (EPA Green Power Partnership 1). There are many ways humans can help prevent global warming and prevent Earth from being destroyed. Moreover, the government should adopt laws that can help people create a greener world. And the most important action that all humans should take is to put the trash in its place, recycle and keep, schools, hospitals, and other public areas clean. If people show a positive attitude, that attitude will grow and like a virus will contaminate others. Instead of contaminating our air and people from bad influences, and toxics people should contaminate other people with a positive attitude and spread the disease of “naturities,” and “neatness” in the environment.

Profile Information

About Me:
Hello, my name is Ana Maria Alvarez and I want to be a nurse. I am a freshman at the Universtity of the District of Columbia, where I am developing my skills as a profesional and as someone who can do something for her community and the environment. I am from a small town in Guatemala where the beauty of nature is unique. There the rivers are clean because people take care of such beauty with love. Now that I live in the United States I have seen a huge "Decline of Neatness," I see people don't care if they live in a dirty environment full of polluted air. I believe that americans should change their behavior and work together to save our Earth. The Earth is where we live and if we don't take of care her, aliens won't do it for us! As a nurse I believe I have the power to inform people/patients that living in a unclean environment is not healthy. Keeping a clean environment will save both humans and Earth.
