How you can help the environment in your daily life

In your home:

-Turn off equipment like televisions and stereos when you're not using them. That little red standby light means they're still using power - and that means a contribution to global warming.
Save water:
- turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.
- collect the water used to wash vegetables and salad to water your houseplants.
Call your local government to see if they have a disposal location for used car batteries and other hazardous household wastes.
Help stop wasteful pap… Continue

FACTS

Here is an interesting and enlightening assortment of hemp facts:

1) Hemp is among the oldest industries on the planet, going back more than 10,000 years to the beginnings of pottery. The Columbia History of the World states that the oldest relic of human industry is a bit of hemp fabric dating back to approximately 8,000 BC.

2) Presidents Washington and Jefferson both grew hemp. Americans were legally bound to grow hemp during the Colonial Era and Early Republic. The federal government subsid… Continue

Hemp - A Short Term Solution to Climate Change?

Hemp can be used as a short term solution to the climate change challenge, simultaneously increasing soil carbon, locking carbon into raw materials and replacing unsustainable raw materials across several industries. It is an adaptable, hardy, multi-purpose crop that can play an important role in reducing and repairing human environmental damage.

Since accurate records began in 1850, atmospheric CO2 had increased from pre-industrial levels of 280 parts per million (ppm) to 360 ppm, by 2000. Emi… Continue

The Solution for a Cleaner Environment is Hemp

The word 'hemp' for many people still conjures up images primarily related to the mood altering drug, Marijuana.

While Cannabis Sativa is certainly used extensively for medicinal, illicit and 'recreational'purposes as marijuana, Industrial hemp is a different strain containing very little of the psychoactive substance found in marijuana. You simply cannot get high on industrial hemp.

Industrial hemp is an extraordinarily useful plant that can provide more environmentally friendly food, fiber,… Continue

Profile Information

About Me:
I am an international student of the University of the District of Columbia, and as a college student, it is important that we realize that whatever we are doing now, is going to impact us in the future, either in the positive or negative way.
The young people are already suffering for the choices that were made by our past generations: global warming, excessful waste of water and natural resources, poor recycling, excessive pollution, and poor knowledge on how we can help the enviroment at home, at school, at work, etc.
One of my passions in life is photography, especially the ones that relate nature's details. How often do you let life pass by, and forget to pay attention to its small details?
Do as much as you can, even if it is a little bit, day by day. Incentivate people around you to do the same, and to be more conscious about what surrounds us.
The planet Earth, as many other things, has finite resources. It is up to us to make the best of it!
If you are interested in volunteering at a public school (DCPS) to promote a Green Environment and need some tips, send me a message and maybe I will be able to help you. If you think you can help me on the same subject, please also message me! I am always open to new ideas and/or suggestions!!!

Videos that you SHOULD pass it on:

Getting children involved: Earth Day
"I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.
And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.
That's why we
Celebrate this day.
That's why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me."

Alright. A very good photographer, you are. Amazing places.
Well, about anything on Earth Day, nothing decided yet. It's not like that I don't want to do, but resources are not sufficient. Anyways, I'll definitely try to contribute as best as I can.

So tell about yourself... What you gonna do? :) :D

Today's society seems to have created a new meaning for fashion: the more unshaved you look, the "cooler" you are. Unfortunately, this does not apply only for clothing, but also language, the way we relate with each other as people, and human-nature relationships, or the lack of the same. Although education has a huge role on the right manners, clothing, and speech, our society members have frequent incentive from the media to act inferiorly, to underestimate the power of the healthy, genuine, and nurturing human relationships. Nothing is more essential in education than respect for the frailty of human beings (Cousins, Norman). The human existence is based directly on the natural resources that our planet offers. As much as we abuse of those same resources, it is passed the time that we as a community, a nation, or as a civilization realize that our resources are finite, and will last longer if we simply learn how to conserve it better.

Hi Clara:
I've just seen your message about your climate change project with the kids. Glad you've been able to get a few things from my site. You know, what I think is a beautiful book, not exactly related to climate change, yet i n a way exactly related to climate change id the Jean paul Gagnon story "The Man Who Planted Trees."
It's beautiful, uplifting and ultimately inspiring and if the kids have not heard it, i'm sure they will enjoy it. And if you've not read it, then you will love it just as much. I'll see if I can think of any others.
Go well

Hi Clara,

Great to read about you and to see what you are doing.
I am organizing a Campaign for a Sustainable America/US. I am a long time friend of Paul Coleman and Celebration Earth Day. I am wanting to encourage people to do something on Earth Day to promote our Campaign to create a Sustainable America, but I am not sure what yet. Do you have any ideas?? It would be great if we could get school kids from across the US involved somehow. We have a blog page about the Campaign at:

http://www.change.org/ideas/view/develop_implement_a_national_strategy_for_sustainability

And our own website is http://www.citnet.org. You can contact me at robineagle@worldcitizen.org.

By the way, I loved the Earth Day Poem about being the Earth. Did you write it?

Thanks,

Rob Wheeler
