I am making preparations again for the Watershed tent at the Ruskin Tomato and Heritage Festival this year- Saturday and Sunday, May 3 & 4, 2008. Each year I call on the enviro-community and offer a table in the big tent (in the May Florida sun, a tent is essential). Here festival visitors can learn about: how to protect local habitats, conserve water, beach cleanup events, and any number of other issues that affect our watershed. Locally, of course, that's Tampa Bay, but everyone lives in a watershed somewhere, so even out-of-town visitors find information and activities of interest.
There's also a Speakers Tent where you can learn how to make a rainbarrel, keep a compost pile going, pick appropriate native plants for your yard or identify local butterflies- some will be flying around in the Butterfly tent right next door. At the end of the festival on Sunday, everyone can help release these 'flying flowers'. Mark your calendars and I hope to see you there!
