Over 200 cities in the west have reached record-high temperatures. The surface temperature of the planet has been 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer since the 1800’s. Will this number continue to rise? According to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, the ten hottest years have all occurred in the last 14 years: 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, the hottest of all. As you see, it seems that since 2005 is the hottest of all, this must mean that the temperatures were progressing over last 14 years. As you know, extreme heat is not anyone’s preference. But if heat becomes too extreme, it can kill. Before what will be stated, these are casualties of human-induced climate change. An extreme heat wave in 2003, in Europe, killed over 25,000 people and nearly 15,000 in France. Furthermore, India suffered 1200 deaths in one week from the 120 degree Fahrenheit temperature. These are a lot deaths in that short period span. Also increase in heat is bad for tourism, especially in hot tourism spots. Imagine what it would be like in the next 30 years or so. Better yet, imagine what it would be like in the next 20 years or so where you live.
