POSITIVE THING TO DO # 61: UPLOAD MOVIE - THE FIRES IN CHINA

Two weeks ago I posted a blog about a forest fire we witnessed in the mountains of Jiangxi Province, China. This fire was intentionally set to profit from logging as a result four people died and the fire raged out of control, devastating the mountains and threatening the village. Having recently [participate din the planting of two hundred trees with the bright and happy students of Shangrao Normal University I wondered at the futility of it all. So much good effort and good will to plant two hundred trees and now a few people searching for money destroy in moments thousands. I lay awake all night, deeply saddened and in the morning awoke to find a tree to be planted. This video covers the tragedy and the hope and was made to show that no matter how dark the night, the light of hope always burns somewhere.

Paul,

So much heartbreaking destruction...here in California almost every year, we have arson fires in our forests. 2007 was particularly tragic. But the wonderful thing to behold is how nature can turn what was meant for evil.... into something good. Although birds, small medium and large wildlife are killed or lose their habitats (and it may take decades for them just reach prefire numbers) the plant life is remarkably resilient. New growth appears very soon and native plants will rebound with amazing speed.
I cannot tell you how it breaks my heart to see this human created inferno in China....as I know first hand how horrible it is! But your hundreds of trees will bear fruit and in just a few seasons they will not be 200 trees but a thousand trees. Take heart my friend! Your work is far more than just the trees themselves......you reach the hearts of people who will duplicate your efforts for many years to come. They will plant 200 trees, and their firends will plant 200 trees...in China, Japan, South America, and you have inspired me to do the same here in California and I hope I can inspire others to do the same. Paul you and your work is a great inspiration to many and for each one who sets a fire there will be hundreds who will plant trees on the burned out slopes because of your videos, and blogs, and tv appearances!

This video is so moving and so powerful. I can't wait to start planting trees. How did the tree-planting go today? It has been so amazing walking with you Paul - and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you are doing and for your amazing motivation, generosity and spirit. Truly inspiring

Paul, Hey earth man. So glad to hear from you. I mistakenly left a message for you on Jenny's page instead of yours, Opps! Next time I'll get it right.
Love, Scott

Hi Paul,
That video was like a lit fuse, and your tree planting made me think of this quote:
"Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree"
-Martin Luther King quoting Martin Luther (1483-1546)
